The project was to bring water to the health hut and build a latrine inside the health compound.
Emily reports:
We have completed the water tap and latrine at the Health Hut in Ngaraff, Senegal.
I accompanied the Health Committee Treasurer and a village mason to a large town down the road to buy supplies for the project.
For the water tap, several men from the village dug a long trench from main water pipe to the inside of the clinic compound, and then an engineer was hired from a nearby town to attach the pipe and install the tap.
The latrine pit was also dug by village residents. A mason from Ngaraff, who had recently built a wall around the Health Hut, constructed the latrine, which is a double-chambered ventilated pit latrine. One of the chambers will serve as a shower.
The people of Ngaraff have been talking incessantly about how happy they are to have a Health Hut that has the means to function effectively. The introduction of water and proper sanitary facilities at the site will allow for a variety of health-related activities, including births, medical care, and educational programs, thus improving the overall health of the village and surrounding area.
