This project was to build a pump well, and install a water filter in each of 8 rooms.
Christine reports:
Our pump well project is now complete, and the boy’s dormitory now has two functioning pump wells and a cement water tank to allow ready access to water for all of the boys living at the RTTC.
We also bought 8 water filters for both the boys and girls dormitories. This permits the consumption of municipal water without the necessity of boiling.
The drilling and construction only took three days, although we had to wait for the deputy director to return from a meeting in Australia to purchase the water filters.
This project has also allowed us to educate the trainees about water sanitation and cleaning and maintaining their water filters. It also has opened a discussion about, and led to several seminars on, general health education.
Christine reports on how the project was received:
All of the trainees have asked me to relay their gratitude to you, and though many don’t have the English necessary to put it into words, I assure you the smiles on their faces was enough.
One trainee says he no longer has to wait for hours to shower or come to class late because he is busy boiling water.
