Sekenani Gate, Narok District, Kenya
Community Description
The Narok District is located in the Rift Valley Province, and has a population of over 300,000 people.
Mara Hope Restoration Center, at Sekani Gate, has eight teachers, one cook, and 200 students in primary school, ages 5-15. Seven of them are orphans, who also live on the premise, along with the teachers.
The center has a need for 180 liters of water per weekday, and about 60 liters of water each weekend. Presently, this water must be purchased at considerable expense.
Project Description
This project is to construct a rainwater catchment system to satisfy the water needs of the center.
A Kentank storage tank of 6,000 liters will be purchased and transported from Nairobi, and installed at the side of the school. Gutters will be installed to catch rainwater from the corrugated iron roof and pipe it to the tank.
Water Charity funds will be used to purchase the materials. The work will be done by local fundis (craftsmen).
Project Impact
200 students and 9 staff will benefit from the project.
